Role Overview
We are currently seeking an experienced Obstetric & Gynaecological Sonographer to provide high-quality ultrasound scanning services across obstetrics and gynaecology.
The successful candidate will perform ultrasound examinations from 6 to 40 weeks' gestation, using internal and external scanning techniques where appropriate. You will provide a professional, compassionate and reassuring experience for patients and their families throughout the scanning process.
Key Requirements
- HCPC Registered
- Member of the Society of Radiographers (SoR)
- Professional Indemnity (PI) Insurance Cover
- Proven experience in obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound scanning
- Experience scanning from 6 to 40 weeks' gestation
- Experience with both internal and external scanning techniques, where appropriate
- Ability to perform gender determination from 16 weeks' gestation onwards, where appropriate
- Strong communication and patient-facing skills
- Ability to handle sensitive or difficult situations with compassion and professionalism
- Commitment to maintaining professional standards and continuing professional development
Key Responsibilities
- Perform accurate and high-quality obstetric ultrasound scans from 6 to 40 weeks' gestation
- Conduct gynaecological ultrasound examinations, including fertility and general reproductive health assessments
- Produce high-quality images using recognised scanning techniques
- Provide appropriate reassurance and professional information to patients and families
- Clearly explain the scanning process and outcomes in a compassionate and professional manner
- Respond appropriately when potential fetal abnormalities or other concerns are identified
- Follow appropriate referral pathways where further assessment or specialist input is required
- Explain limitations in image quality and advise when a repeat scan may be appropriate
- Maintain a high standard of customer service and patient care
- Operate ultrasound equipment in line with manufacturer guidance, professional standards and the ALARA principle
- Maintain accurate clinical, administrative and electronic records
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with applicable data protection requirements
- Keep professional knowledge and clinical skills up to date through appropriate CPD
- Support the training and development of other Sonographers where required
- Share professional knowledge and best practice with the wider clinical team
